hm weird, i've downloaded the demo myself today, installed and runs just fine. look in \toribash\data\textures, check for the following files:
font_ascii.tga 1mb
font_medium.tga 1mb
font_large.tga 4mb

also, is it just some of the text, or all of it? post a screen perhaps?
