That's because you have the line set to the left hand ;O
If you want the same thing on your right hand, you have to change the next line (which is FLAME1):

As for your color changing problem, you changed the colors 8, 9 and 10, not 7,8,9. The 0; in the start also counts as a number.

so how come the other tutorial has 34 digits named but "30 0 0 30 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0" (in the line "FLAME0 0; 11 84 88 0 1 45 255 13 255 0 80 255 16 255 0 100 11 49 50 13 30 21 0 0 41 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 30 0 0 30 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 ") are digits 35,36,37,38,39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49,50... and digit 35 and 38 mysteriously have 30 on them for some reason no one bothers to mention...

Edit: Also, digit 7 8 and 9 only change the beginning trail color, and then they immediately turn into blue again.. so where's the values to change what color they turn into? It's not written anywhere...

Does it really matter? Some numbers somewhere do something, just ignore them. They probably aren't listed in the tutorial because we don't know what they do. The line I gave you has them because I copied it from my item.dat - I have actual inferno flames activated.

Yes, it really matters, I'd like to know what they're for so I know what I'm doing.. I zeroed out the last numbers (41,30 & 30) and it makes the trail totally different just by changing those last numbers that, as far as I'm concerned, shouldn't have any significance in the first place!!! So really you have no idea what you're talking about imo........ and that's why I requested a tutorial in the first place, because the first one sucked and this one does even worse of a job at tutoring us on how to use flame trails.. this tutorial is more like a wikipedia answer but worse because all of the informative content on the actual lines of code in item.dat are missing, and that's almost the most important part!

Ehm, if you'd look at the first post, it has everything the last one has + a lot more.

How to modify the flames in item.dat?

Edit: Well, apparently 26 is some kind of flame size, the higher you make the number, the smaller it goes.

it doesn't though......... well, it does... but there's still things that have no explanation......... like why are the trails ALWAYS BLUE?.. there's no secondary color modifier present in the line of code so why is that when I change line 6,7,8,9 (Supposedly K-Value, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) the flames remain bluish purple? How do I change that?

Anyway, experimenting would be the best chance for you atm. Unless someone reaally smart bothers to come up with something ^^

13 = Flame Size (Start of Flame, bottom)
14 = Flame Size (End of flame, top)

As for now, I tried changing those two and they seemed to change the color of the flame also.. Combining them with 7,8,9 and you can pretty much change the whole color of the flame. Changing the original line to this seems to make it red from below and yellowish from above:
