TORIBASH MANUAL

Info

This new manual has some of the same headings as the original, but has been rewritten because the old one was horrendously out of date.
Any technical problems should be emailed to '[email protected]', or addressed through irc. (People are busy, allow a few minutes for an answer. Right-clicking somebody's name and selecting the 'Slap!' option will result in a kick from the room.
The irc server is irc.toribash.com:6667 and the channel is #support. If you don't have your own irc client, use 'forum.toribash.com/chat.php' and once connected, type '/join #support'.

Controlling Characters

To select your player, left click with the mouse. The red character, if you have registered in the forums and logged in with the game, will have your specified username. If you haven't registered an account, go to 'forum.toribash.com' and find the link to register.
Clicking on any of the joints will change the way the joint is moving. The four joint states are:
-Holding; Used to keep the joint as still as possible.
-Relaxing; Used to make the joint as flexible and easy to control as possible.
-Contracting; Used to 'close' the joint, like bending your knees.
-Extending; Used to 'open' the joint, like when you kick something.
Pressing the 'c' button alternates each of the body's joints between hold and relax at once.
To make your hands grab onto the opponent, simply click them.

Ghosting

The ghost of your character shows how your character is going to move due to the changes that have been made to its joints.
This is often unreliable unless you press 'B' to show the opponent's ghost as well. Press 'G' to show only your ghost again.

Scoring

Toribash deals damage according to where on the body contact has been made. Hitting the head will cause the most damage.
Hands, feet, elbows and knees do not take damage unless dismembered.
As a body part sustains damage, it turns red. The more damage you do to a body part, the deeper the red will be.

Dismemberments

A direct blow, with enough force, can break a joint. Joints are most susceptible to dismemberments when they are red.
Any dismembered joint can no longer be used, and is a disqualification hazard, if disqualification is enabled.
The bodypart will be broken off and the joint will be in a deep red (or your customized joint color), and bleed.

Fractures

Like a dismemberment, a fractured bodypart can no longer be used. Parts are fractured in the same way as they are dismembered, although usually at a lower amount of pressure.
The bodypart will move according to momentum, even bending backwards, and will be drawn in blue.
Fractured bodyparts cannot be dismembered.

Grabbing

Click on the hand you wish to grab with. It will be transformed into a smaller rectangular prism.
Any grab contact is shown by a transparent green sphere.
Grip toggle can also be done by hovering the mouse over the wrist and pressing 'L'.

Disqualifications

While the DQ option is on, only hands and feet are allowed to touch the ground.
A player who touches the ground with any other bodypart or joint is disqualified.
When this happens a circle is drawn in the color of the player that lost (red or blue). The origin of the circle is where the bodypart touched the ground.
If a dojo is drawn, then ANY part (hands and feet included) that touches the ground outside the dojo is disqualified.

Editing replays

It's possible to modify an existing replay. To do this you must first hit PAUSE key 'p' at your desired point and then the edit key 'e'.
This will put the replay in EDIT mode and you can continue tweaking the replay from that point on.
When you are done you must save the fight with a new name. The existing fight will still be there under its original name.
SHIFT+P can be used to step the replay one frame at the time until you find the best frame for editing.

Textures

If you gain enough toricredits, you can buy textures from the shop section of the forums.
Textures allow you to... well, texture your Tori's body.
Textures are automatically downloaded upon seeing another player play online, or by typing '/dl playername' in-game.

Forums

http://forum.toribash.com/
The forum is full of tutorials for Toribash, which house an incredible amount
of information, far more than could fit into this manual, come online and meet
your fellow bashers!!
We have tonnes of experienced players that are more than happy to share their
knowledge with newer players so if you are stuck on aspects of Toribash don't
be afraid to ask...
The forums are a great way to learn new things, and share your knowledge with others.
There are many, many people there who would consider time helping you time well spent.

Items

Items can be obtained through the Toribash Forum Shop, or ToriShop. Once you have
obtained enough credits you can buy any of a number of coloured items and use
them to customize your Tori.
However, there are limitations. Some items may require you to have played
a certain number of multiplayer matches.
Items can often be bought at much lower prices than in the torishop if you can search the market.
http://forum.toribash.com/market_deals.php
The available items include:
-Blood Colors
-Force Colors
-Relax Colors
-Primary Gradient Colors
-Secondary Gradient Colors
-Ghost Colors
-UserText Colors
-Timer Colors
-Emote Colors
-Disqualification (DQ) Colors
-Trail Colors
-Textures

Clans

Clans are groups of players who usually have something in common and like each other.
In order to join a clan, you must apply within the clan's [DSC] or, if they are official, recruitment thread.
Members of a clan wear a clan tag before their names while playing ingame. For example, [MAD]hampa, [RAWR]NutHug, [bncy]Gynx, etc.
To add a clan tag, log in how you normally would ingame (NOT in the forums,) but with the tag in front.

General Advice

Try to keep your movements flowing, don't reverse a joint's state just because it looks
like it could damage your opponent.
In multiplayer focus on balance over impact velocity.
A player that uses 90% of his power and can maintain his balance usually comes
out on top.
Punching is more about controlling your upper body than the actual arms (a bit
like in real boxing)

Have fun!
Again, if you have any problems, please email <[email protected]> or join #support on the toribash IRC server.
