Bumpamp makes it look more 3d. It makes it look like it has more depth, if you use it correctly.

You need regular textures AND bumpmap textures for the bumpmap textures to work.

And AFAIK bumpmap textures doesn't work in 3.8 version. I don't know about 3.86, but they will work in this version
